House Groups are the heartbeat of what
the Salisbury Vineyard is all about. The church is a living,
breathing organism, made up of members who are connected to, and
dependent on, each other. The difference between a crowd gathering
on Sundays and a church is that the people in the church have
relationships of love and service with one another; the people in
the crowd do not.
We have committed ourselves to each other for the sake of Jesus. We
believe we were made to share our lives with each other! In all of
life's busy-ness, it is all too easy to become isolated and distant
from one another. God brings us together so that we can learn to
care for each other. This is lived out through small groups whose
purpose is to meet together to explore what loving God and each
other really means.
When push comes to shove and you have to make a choice, we encourage
people to opt for the small group instead of the large group. Go to
the place where you can know and be known. Be among people who care
enough to know the details of your life.
We have also found that followers of Jesus learn best when they
engage with others. Christianity was never meant to be a "spectator"
sport. We meet in small groups so that everyone gets to be heard,
and cared for – so that everyone gets to practice doing what Jesus
did. The result is real spiritual growth, true family and healthy
friendships.
