The Forge
Sundays 7.00pm
Bishopdown Farm Pavillion

God, in sovereign grace and outrageous love, has revealed Himself and His purposes for humanity in the Bible. It is this “with God” life that we see in the Bible that we are called to. But such life does not simply fall into our hands.

To receive this great treasure we must be prepared to approach the Bible in a different way. We must allow it to read and question us. We need to learn to treat it like a trusted friend to whom we give the benefit of the doubt when we are not sure. If we want to receive the life “with God” that is portrayed in the Bible, we must be prepared to have our dearest and deepest assumptions about ourselves and life called into question.

We must read it humbly and with a readiness to re-arrange our lives in its wake. The Forge is not a place to increase in knowledge of the Bible, or even our knowledge of how others are mistaken in their views. It is not a place to find quick fix formulas for short term living.

We seek whole life discipleship to Jesus

The Forge will lean us into encounter with the real Jesus and into day-by-day application of His ways in our lives. It will be a place where we will do all we can to enable people to see clearly the Life that burns brightly on the pages of the Bible and to show, by practical steps, how to bring our entire lives into that Life. It will be an intelligent, humble, careful, intensive, straightforward reading of the Bible that directs us into life in the Kingdom of God.

The Forge is about spiritual formation. It is about engagement with the Bible. About challenge and depth. It is about living the dynamic, pulsating, “with God” life that is on nearly every page of the Bible. The Forge is about learning to position ourselves deliberately, daily, actively before God that we might be changed. It is for beginners and veterans, novices and saints – it is for those who want to be formed into the likeness of Jesus Christ.
